Libretto for GIVE
May 11, 2011
The latest Madflamingo book is available for download at Amazon for users of the Kindle or Kindle for PC/Mac. It’s the text version of GIVE a Christmas Musical by A.D. Lucas. The description is as follows:
A musical play wherein a greedy family learns that giving is the most important part of the holiday season.
Like a lot of families, the family in GIVE has to deal with a dozen problems at once this Christmas. DADDY has to work overtime to pay credit card debt, MOMMY has to upload and edit pictures of the children for Christmas cards, DEEDEE and BOBBY are worried about what presents they’re getting and whether or not Santa has seen them being nice or naughty this year.
Every corner of the halls is blindingly decked, the phone is ringing off the hook, the television is blaring, the video games are bleeping, and the presents keep arriving by courier. Everything’s so “Christmessy” that the family doesn’t have a moment to connect with each other … let alone notice the drama happening just outside their window.
In the alley beside the family’s home, an ALLEY CAT has wandered among the trash cans looking for scraps to build a Christmas meal. The cat is homeless, not because no one wanted him, but because he’s lost. Last Christmas, he saw an open door and just had to bolt. He has been wandering ever since. Now, he’s wandered into an alleyway where there lives someone who could solve all his problems. That is, if ALLEY CAT doesn’t eat her first!
ALLISON MOUSE (you can call her “ALLIE”) is a wise mouse of the rather elderly age of two years. (That may seem young to you, but in mouse years, that’s ancient!) She lives in the alley, and she realizes that this may be her last Christmas. She’s grateful that she’s had two Christmases, as many of her fellow members of mousehood never make it that long.
ALLIE MOUSE overhears ALLEY CAT’S plight (homeless and hungry and all that) so she decides that if this IS her last Christmas, she’ll really make it count. In a surge of Christmas spirit and gratitude, she decides to give ALLEY CAT the Christmas present of a lifetime. The only problem is … he’s a cat, and he’s hungry!
How can ALLIE MOUSE convince ALLEY CAT to accept her wisdom and generosity?
How can MOMMY, DADDY, DEEDEE, and BOBBY realize that Christmas is about something other than acquiring and accomplishing as many things as possible during the holidays?
GIVE combines satire and nostalgia to create a blend of Christmas Spirit that is sure to remind audiences what Christmas should be about. In a family-friendly, but INTELLIGENT manner, GIVE asks us to let go of our pride so that we can embrace giving.
GIVE premiered in the United States in December 2010.
Print and other eBook editions will be available in the upcoming weeks.
